In the late 90's, five young ladies from England conquered the world with "Girlpower". They were; Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell: The Spice Girls.
Young females the world over dedicated their hearts to their new idols, purchasing millions of their albums. Originally the group formed in 1994. At that point Michelle Stephenson was in the group but she was replaced by Emma before stardom had begun. Some of Michelle's solorecordings can be found on the album "Old Spice". After two hugely successful releases and world tours, Geri Halliwell decided to split from the group to work on other projects. Instead of forging ahead, the girls took a well-deserved break. Mel C joined up with Bryan Adams on a duet called "When You're Gone". It's success encouraged her to fulfill her dream of recording a solo album. The result, "Northern Star", was released in '99. At first it was not well-received, except in Scandinavia, but sales grew on the strength of the album's third single. To date it has sold multi-platinum in the U.K. alone. Despite various solo projects, The Spice Girls managed to record their third album, "Forever": released in 2000. Mel C is currently working on the follow-up to "Northern Star", set for release in early 2003, about the same time as this album.
